What is Popular sovereignty?
Popular Sovereignty is the idea that political authorities belongs to the people, and this is when Americans had discretely turned down the idea of the Declaration of Independence.
What is limited government?
Limited government is when the leaders have to follow the laws. Limited government was to keep individual leaders from having too much power.
What is the separation of powers?
A man, Baron de Montesquieu, thought the only way to receive liberty for America was for the separation of the government's power, so the government was separated into three powers including legislative, executive, and judicial branch.
What is the system of checks and balances?
This system keeps any branch of government from becoming too powerful. There are three branches the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The legislative branch is responsible for making new laws, and the passing the laws to the government. The executive branch has the president and departments help run the government, and also to make sure the laws being passed is carried out. The judicial branch is held accountable for punishing criminals , interpreting laed, and settling disputes between states. The judicial branch is made up of all of the national courts, and also the branch is the last of all three of the branches to finish passing of the laws.
What is the judicial review?
A judicial review is when the federal courts were created, and the judges inside the courts became to be known for overstepping limits. In the 8th grade U.S. History book the judicial review is, "...interprets the constitution and the other laws... reviews lower-court decisions." (Page 145). This shows what their job was to actually do.
What is Federalism?
When the founding fathers first began drafting the constitution, they wanted to create a system of government known as Federalism. According to the 8th grade U.S. History textbook, federalism is, "...a system that divided powers between the states and the federal government." (144). The constitution writers believed that this form of government would make the federal government strong enough to protect its citizens. In addition, this system would allow the states to control local issues.
